In le informatica e theoria del information, un bit ha duo significationes multo differente:
- un bit es le unitate de mesura del information, definite como le quantitate minime de information qui servi a seliger inter duo possibile alternativas equiprobabile
- un bit es un cifra binari, i.e. un del duo symbolos del systema de numeration binari, classicamente appellate 1 (un) e 0 (zero).
